In a step that contributes to revitalizing the Syrian economy, Syrian Minister of Information Hamza Mustafa announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Information and Kuwaiti company Al-Maha International Company to establish the “Damascus Gate” city for media, artistic, and tourism production in Syria. The event took place at the People’s Palace in the capital, with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa in attendance.

Mustafa stated that this major project, with an estimated investment cost of one and a half billion US dollars, comes within the strategic directions of the state to attract quality projects that have a profound developmental impact, particularly in vital sectors related to national image and enhancing Syria’s cultural identity.

He also pointed out that the project aligns with government policies aimed at supporting unique developmental initiatives and enhancing Syria’s presence on the regional and international media and cinematic production map. Damascus Gate is expected to become a leading production center, potentially providing over 4,000 direct job opportunities and around 9,000 seasonal jobs.

Easing Sanctions Opens Doors for International Investors

The beginning of the easing of US sanctions on Syria represents a turning point in Damascus’s relationship with the outside world after years of international isolation. Muhammad al-Anzi, Chairman of Al-Maha International Company for Artistic Production and Advertising confirmed that the project to establish the Damascus Gate project in Syria will attract Arab and global media.

He stated that the project represents a “real opportunity” for investors in the Gulf and beyond, calling for participation in what he described as a “genuine economic revival initiative.” According to Anzi, the project represents a comprehensive platform for media and artistic production, supported by cutting-edge technologies, constituting a qualitative leap in media infrastructure in Syria and the region. He praised the facilities provided by the Syrian government and the Ministry of Information.

Anzi indicated that the project will form a major attraction for Arab and global media due to its advanced technical nature and cultural and historical uniqueness. The project is expected to achieve a qualitative leap in the Syrian drama and artistic production sector.

The outlines of economic openness began to emerge as part of the new strategy in Syria to attract and expand foreign investments following the easing of US sanctions last month, and the June 30 removal of remaining sanctions by US President Trump.
