Revolutionary factions in Syria carried out a surprise attack against regime forces in the northern countryside of Latakia, resulting in several casualties among government troops. The operation, led by the Coastal Division affiliated with the National Liberation Front (NLF), targeted regime positions on the Atira axis in Jabal al-Turkman.

According to local sources, the Coastal Division conducted a swift and effective strike against the Assad regime forces, leading to multiple deaths and injuries. Sources confirmed that the fighters returned to their bases without suffering any casualties.

In retaliation, regime forces bombarded the town of Tuffahiya in northern Latakia with mortar shells and tank fire. Additionally, the town of Majdalia in the Idlib countryside was targeted with three bomb-laden drones, causing damage to civilian property but no reported casualties.

This latest clash follows a pattern of escalating hostilities in northwestern Syria. In late June, special forces from the Ahrar al-Sham launched a limited offensive on Abu Asaad Hill in the Jabal al-Akrad area. That operation, which targeted an advanced regime ambush, resulted in the deaths and injuries of four regime soldiers, with the Ahrar forces withdrawing without losses.

Military sources indicate that the regime has increasingly intensified its operations in the region, frequently using suicide drones against civilians and bombarding areas with artillery shells and missiles. These tactics have heightened tensions and contributed to the ongoing instability in the area.

The coastal Latakia province, a stronghold of the Assad regime, has seen intermittent fighting as revolutionary factions attempt to undermine regime control. The region’s strategic importance, coupled with its rugged terrain, makes it a focal point for military operations from both sides. The NLF, a coalition of military groups, continues to challenge regime positions despite the regime’s superior firepower and air capabilities.
