The onslaught of artillery and drone attacks in northwestern Syria continued Wednesday as Assad regime forces, backed by Russian support, targeted civilian areas across the liberated countryside of Idlib and Aleppo. According to Syrian Civil Defense and local sources, the day’s assaults injured several civilians, including four children.
In the town of Al-Abzmo in Aleppo’s western countryside, at least eight suicide drones bombarded the city, leading to the injury of six civilians, including four children, which was confirmed by the Syrian Civil Defense, also known as the White Helmets. According to reports, one of the drones exploded in a local market, damaging two civilian cars and several shops. White Helmets teams arrived on the scene to treat the injured and inspect the area for additional casualties.
“These indiscriminate attacks continue to terrorize Syrian civilians, disrupt daily life, and threaten the very stability Syrians dream of,” a representative of the White Helmets said. The organization’s emergency responders provided immediate medical assistance to the wounded children and two men injured in the attack, adding that the assault had left residents shocked and scared.
In addition to the drone strikes in Al-Abzmo, regime forces launched rocket and artillery attacks on the towns and villages of Kabashin, Tadil, Kafr Taal, and the Qasr farms east of Atarib in Aleppo’s countryside. While no injuries were reported from these bombardments, the attacks contributed to a growing state of fear among residents, who face almost daily shelling.
In a related incident south of Idlib, the Al-Fath Al-Mubeen Operations Room (FMOR) reported successfully shooting down another FPV drone intended to target the village of Fleifel. Observers from Observatory 80, an organization monitoring military actions in the region, shared footage of panicked civilians fleeing as drones circled overhead, emphasizing the psychological toll these near-constant strikes impose.
This latest escalation follows a marked increase in violence in mid-October, with regime and Russian forces intensifying attacks on non-military targets in liberated areas of northwestern Syria. Just two days earlier, on November 11, several civilians in the village of Taqad were injured in a similar drone strike originating from regime-controlled areas. This ongoing campaign, largely focused on residential neighborhoods and essential infrastructure, aims to disrupt civilian life, destabilize local economies, and force populations to abandon their homes.
Rights groups and observers have condemned the attacks as violations of international law, which prohibits the targeting of civilians and non-military infrastructure. Civilians in the targeted regions are largely left with no choice but to flee or face the relentless bombardment. The White Helmets note that these attacks on housing, markets, and schools have resulted in widespread displacement, strained healthcare resources, and paralyzed economic activities like farming and local trade.
With the Assad regime’s relentless campaign and ongoing Russian support, the Syrian people face a precarious future, increasingly stripped of their security, stability, and basic rights. As these daily attacks persist, humanitarian organizations warn of an escalating crisis with dire consequences for Syria’s war-weary population.
