Israeli aircraft struck multiple sites in Syria on the evening of Monday, September 8, targeting military installations in the provinces of Homs and Latakia, according to Syrian state media. Explosions were reported near the southern countryside of Homs as jets flew overhead, while strikes also hit an air defense battalion in the village of Shinshar and an arms depot on the Palmyra road in Maskanah, according to local sources.
In Latakia, warplanes bombed a military barracks in the town of Soqoubin, injuring personnel and damaging nearby civilian homes, local witnesses said. The strikes marked the latest in a series of Israeli raids on Syrian territory in recent weeks.
A Pattern of Escalation
The attacks follow illegal Israeli operations in August, including an airdrop near the city of Kiswa in Damascus’ countryside and repeated bombardments around Jabal al-Mana. Those violations killed and wounded soldiers, while preventing the Syrian army from recovering casualties for nearly two days due to repeated air raids.
Damascus has repeatedly accused Israel of conducting surveillance and electronic warfare inside Syrian territory, claiming that Israeli drones and reconnaissance aircraft have been used to disrupt Syrian defenses. The Syrian government says such actions are part of an ongoing escalation designed to weaken its sovereignty and destabilize the region.
Damascus Condemns ‘Air Aggression’
In a statement issued today, September 9, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the strikes as “a violation of international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.” The ministry described the raids as “a direct threat to Syria’s security and regional stability” and called on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to assume its responsibilities in holding Israel accountable.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates affirms that these attacks represent a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic,” the statement read, adding that Syria rejects “any attempts to undermine its sovereignty or harm its national security.”
Concerns Over Regional Stability
While Israel did not immediately comment on the latest strikes, its campaign of air raids against Syrian targets has intensified over the past year. Syria maintains that it poses no threat to Israel and argues the continued assaults only exacerbate instability in the Middle East.
Calls for accountability have grown as the attacks increase in frequency. Syria’s appeals to the UN underscores international concern that unchecked Israeli actions could endanger broader regional and global peace.
