Syria and KSA Discuss Cooperation in Telecommunications and Information Technology

A delegation from the Ministry of Communications, headed by Minister Abdulsalam Haykal, visited the Saudi Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, where they were welcomed by the Saudi minister and several senior officials in the sector.

During the meeting, the minister focused on three main pillars for the work of the Ministry of Communications in Syria: a wide-ranging national digital transformation, enhancing the efficiency of public institutions to implement this transformation, and building national capacities capable of leading Syria’s digital future.

He also stressed that Syria is currently in a phase of establishing a new national foundation which requires qualitative cooperation and exchange of expertise. Foremost among them KSA which provided an inspiring model in digital transformation and technical development over the past five years. The Saudi minister Abdullah al-Swaha expressed complete readiness to provide any service or expertise to assist Syria in its current phase.

Digital Government Authority and Innovation Center

As part of the official visit, the delegation visited the Digital Government Authority and Innovation Center in the capital Riyadh, where they discussed ways to enhance cooperation in governmental digital transformation.

The delegation learned about the Authority’s key projects in unified governmental services, data governance, improving user experience, and facilitating access to digital services. The possibility of transferring expertise and knowledge to support Syria’s efforts in developing its national digital model was also discussed.

Haykal confirmed that governmental digital transformation in Syria is a priority for the current phase, stressing the importance of exchanging experiences to accelerate the establishment of smart institutions that provide transparent and effective services to citizens. A dialogue was also opened regarding modern methodologies for designing digital services and the importance of involving both public and private sectors in this developmental process.

Visit to Saudi Telecom Company (STC) in Riyadh

The delegation visited the headquarters of Saudi Telecom Company (STC), a leading company in the telecommunications and digital transformation sector in the region. The ministry and the company discussed ways to collaborate and partner in areas such as digital infrastructure, service development, information transfer, and building national capacities, contributing to supporting a comprehensive national digital transformation in Syria.

Both sides reviewed work models and technological advancements achieved by STC over recent years, which represent a regional reference in technical performance efficiency and institutional innovation.

This visit comes as part of opening channels for coordination with the Saudi private sector and creating a common ground for fruitful cooperation that serves the technical and economic interests of both countries.
