The Governor of the Central Bank of Syria, Abdulqadir al-Husriya, discussed with the Governor of the Saudi Central Bank, Ayman al-Sayari, how to enhance bilateral cooperation in the financial and banking services sector during a meeting held on the sidelines of the Money 20/20 Middle East Conference, currently being held in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
A Vital Partnership and Rapprochement
The meeting, which comes within the framework of the growing rapprochement between the two countries, reflected both parties’ keenness to deepen ties. Discussions focused on the technical and training support that the Saudi Central Bank can provide to its Syrian counterpart, particularly in the areas of modern banking supervision, financial technology (Fintech) applications, payment systems, and monetary policy management, reflecting the Syrian side’s efforts to strengthen its institutional capabilities.
The meeting also addressed ways of enhancing joint cooperation in regulating financial transfer operations and strengthening oversight measures in the financial sector, with the aim of ensuring the highest standards of transparency and stability. The two sides emphasized the importance of continuing dialogue and coordination, and agreed to continue communicating and exchanging bilateral visits in the future to strengthen cooperation.
Preliminary Agreement
Husriya expanded the scope of his visit by holding a series of bilateral meetings with senior officials from a number of leading Saudi banks. Wherein he discussed the integration with the Saudi banking sector and methods of attracting investment to support economic recovery.
These meetings follow a bilateral investment agreement signed in Riyadh last month, which aims to encourage and protect mutual investments, expand joint economic cooperation, and facilitate the movement of capital between the two countries. Cooperation in the banking and financial sectors is a cornerstone for activating this agreement and creating an enabling environment for investment and driving growth.
It is worth noting that the Money 20/20 Conference is a leading global platform that brings together the world’s most prominent experts and leaders in the financial and technology sectors, making it an Ideal opportunity to exchange expertise and launch regional cooperation initiatives.
