Syrian Universities Forum Strengthens Academic Ties in Saudi Arabia

Under the patronage of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Syrian Universities Forum was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with participation from both public and private Syrian universities.

The ministry explained that the forum aims to introduce Syrian and Arab students residing in Saudi Arabia to programs offered by Syrian universities, including bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral studies. It also seeks to facilitate direct communication between institutions and students, promote scholarships, and strengthen academic and cultural cooperation between Syria and Saudi Arabia.

The forum was inaugurated by a representative of Minister Marwan al-Halabi, alongside Dr. Abdulmoneim Abdulhafiz, president of Sham Private University. Dr. Abdulhafiz emphasized the importance of such events in reinforcing the presence of Syrian higher education on both regional and international levels.

A New Vision for Arab Academic Cooperation

Minister Halabi stated the forum embodies a new vision for Arab cooperation in higher education, as Syria presents a renewed academic model and builds bridges of knowledge with its counterparts in Saudi Arabia. He said the event reflects the depth of scientific ties between the two countries and a shared aspiration for a more integrated Arab academic future.

He expressed his appreciation to the Saudi government for its hospitality and continued support of Arab educational cooperation. The Directorate of Higher Religious Education at the Ministry of Awqaf also participated, represented by Director Maher Shakir, along with Assistant Minister for Religious Affairs Diauddin Barsha and Director of Public Relations Ahmad al-Halaq.

Forum Objectives and Outcomes

The forum saw strong turnout and active participation from students eager to learn about admission systems, study opportunities, and accredited programs at Syrian universities—demonstrating growing confidence in Syrian higher education and its regional academic standing.

The Syrian Universities Forum in Saudi Arabia serves as a link between students seeking quality education and universities with a long academic tradition. It aims to offer flexible study options—both traditional and virtual—aligned with labor market needs and students’ future aspirations.

The event also provides Syrian universities a platform to expand their regional presence, attract new students, and strengthen scientific and cultural exchange with Saudi society. By fostering collaboration and dialogue, the forum highlights Saudi Arabia’s role as a regional hub for education and knowledge exchange, helping build lasting academic and cultural connections between generations.
