‘Dawn of Qusayr’ Campaign in Homs Raises Over $10 Million

In a scene reflecting the spirit of national solidarity, donation and relief campaigns continue across Syrian provinces to support affected areas through joint efforts by official institutions, civil associations, and volunteers. In the city of Qusayr in the Homs countryside, a community initiative titled “The Dawn of Qusayr” successfully concluded after raising over $10 million to rebuild and restore infrastructure destroyed by bombardment carried out by the Assad regime.

The campaign is part of local efforts involving the community in rehabilitating damaged infrastructure and restoring key service facilities, especially after tens of thousands of residents returned to their homes following liberation. Organizers aim to support the stabilization of returning families who currently lack adequate housing, employment, and access to land.

The campaign featured a video presentation preserving the memory of Qusayr, documenting its resilience in the face of destruction and highlighting the effects of displacement and the difficulties endured during that period.

Homs Governor Abdurahman al-Amawi stated that significant progress has been achieved in rehabilitating service institutions. He noted that 97 schools were restored within ten months despite the extensive damage to infrastructure and affirmed that cooperative efforts will continue to restore normal life to the region.

Bassim Idris, coordinator of the campaign, explained its name was chosen to symbolize a new beginning for the city. He emphasized that the initiative relies on cooperation between civil and popular organizations to help residents rebuild what was destroyed and to strengthen social cohesion.

Hassan Muhibuddin, director of the Qusayr area, reported approximately 165,000 citizens have returned to the city and its countryside, representing about 70% of the original population. He underscored the urgent need to improve services and infrastructure to meet the growing demands of returning residents.

Talal Zuaib, director of the industrial city in Homs, confirmed the participation of investors and industrialists in the campaign, stating that rebuilding the country must be led by its own people. Qusayr suffered severe damage to its infrastructure over years of war, prompting the launch of multiple community initiatives aimed at supporting reconstruction efforts and improving essential services for residents.

A Spirit of Solidarity Amid Challenges

The Dawn of Qusayr campaign is one of several similar initiatives launched in various governorates as part of broader efforts to strengthen community solidarity and rehabilitate areas affected during years of revolution and the destruction caused by the former regime.

These campaigns highlight the enduring presence of collective support among Syrians despite the difficult economic and social circumstances they continue to face. Their continuation reflects the community’s capacity to unite, organize, and confront challenges, as well as a growing awareness of the significance of shared responsibility and collective action.
