Donation and relief campaigns continue across Syrian provinces with the aim of supporting the reconstruction of affected areas in Hama Governorate, improving infrastructure, and facilitating the return of displaced residents. These efforts involve both official institutions and community participation.
Sharaa Highlights Hama’s Legacy and National Unity
During the “In Devotion to Hama” campaign, President Ahmad al-Sharaa emphasized the profound legacy represented by Hama and described the city as a symbol of national unity. He stated that Hama’s wounds are shared by all Syrians and have remained present for more than forty years. He added that the city’s liberation marked an important turning point in the national struggle and transformed Hama into a beacon of sacrifice, patience, and resilience.
He noted that the Syrian people learned important lessons in devotion from the city’s steadfastness. He also highlighted the role played by the countryside of Hama during the Syrian revolution and acknowledged the heavy price its residents paid in their pursuit of freedom. He urged Syrians to repay their moral debt to Hama by assisting in the reconstruction of devastated areas and by strengthening bonds of solidarity among citizens.
Hama Governor Abdurahman al-Suhayyan stated that the campaign conveys a message of loyalty to the governorate and its people, who endured years of oppression and destruction. He explained that the campaign seeks not only to provide immediate assistance but also to contribute to rebuilding the governorate’s urban and social environment to help families regain normal living conditions.
The campaign focuses on supporting projects in education, water, agriculture, health, endowments, and infrastructure to enable residents to return to their areas by rehabilitating facilities destroyed in previous years and by restoring essential public services in damaged towns and villages.
The Aga Khan Development Network committed to expanding its activities throughout Hama Governorate as part of the campaign by allocating additional financial support to strengthen its programs in health, water, education, solar energy, agricultural production, microfinance, and cultural heritage preservation.
The total donations collected during the launch of the “In Devotion to Hama” campaign exceeded $210 million dollars, surpassing previous fundraising efforts in other Syrian governorates. Hama holds significant symbolic importance as it witnessed mass killings during the rule of both Hafez al-Assad and his ousted son Bashar al-Assad, including the events of 1982 in which an estimated forty thousand people were killed. The campaign is part of a series of initiatives carried out in several governorates with the participation of business leaders, community figures, and civil organizations under government supervision.
