Arab Atomic Energy Council Meets With Syrian Participation

The 76th session of the Executive Council of the Arab Atomic Energy Agency (AAEA) opened in Amman with the participation of delegations from member states, including Syria. The session represents an important step toward strengthening joint Arab cooperation in the peaceful uses of atomic energy and expanding the exchange of scientific expertise.

Peaceful Applications for Development

Discussions during the session focused on expanding the peaceful applications of atomic energy in key sectors such as medicine, agriculture, industry, and scientific research. These applications are seen as practical tools to improve public services, enhance food and health security, and strengthen Arab scientific and institutional capacities through shared knowledge and coordinated programs.

Participants reached understandings on concrete steps to deepen cooperation, including organizing joint visits, exchanging experts, and learning from successful national experiences across the Arab world. These measures aim to build collaborative programs grounded in practical integration and to reinforce trust and institutional coordination among member states.

Advancing Regional Scientific Integration

Syria’s participation reflects a broader orientation toward renewed Arab scientific cooperation and openness to effective partnerships. The Syrian delegation expressed readiness to contribute actively to joint programs and to host future activities of the agency, providing the necessary facilities to support scientific dialogue and collaboration among Arab experts.

The session underscored the importance of sustained coordination and intensified joint initiatives to promote the peaceful uses of atomic energy as a pillar of sustainable development and scientific progress in the region. The 76th session continues until December 22 and is expected to conclude with recommendations that will guide future joint Arab action in this field.
