Under the slogan “Syria Deserves It,” Damascus University launched the conference titled “Food Manufacturing Quality, Smart Agriculture, and Human Resources Rehabilitation in Syria,” under the patronage of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and in cooperation with Excellence Engineering Management and Business Solutions Group (EMBS).

The conference discussed several key themes, including predicting agricultural diseases, artificial intelligence applications in livestock care and breeding, food manufacturing quality, and technological innovations in food safety.

The Assistant Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research for Student Affairs, Dr. Abdulhamid al-Khalid, affirmed that universities bear a major responsibility in developing academic curricula and strengthening applied scientific research. He stressed that these efforts contribute directly to building a knowledge-based economy and reaffirmed the Ministry’s support for initiatives that enhance partnerships between universities and industry, helping prepare a generation capable of leading sustainable development and achieving food security.

Artificial Intelligence in Modern Agriculture

President of Damascus University, Dr. Mustafa al-Dahr, explained the conference addresses a pivotal sector of the Syrian economy, noting that agriculture accounts for approximately 25% of national output. He highlighted the role of food industries that export Syrian products to global markets and affirmed that the university places special emphasis on agricultural sciences and food manufacturing as key drivers of economic recovery.

Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering, Dr. Khalid al-Asas, stated that the faculty continues to develop its academic programs and enhance practical and research training to prepare qualified agricultural engineers capable of leading agricultural modernization. He noted that artificial intelligence represents a real transformation in modern farming methods and emphasized that human resources rehabilitation remains the cornerstone of any successful technological transition.

Local and International Efforts Toward Sustainable Food Security

Israa Hamdan, EMBS Director, pointed out the conference was distinguished by being organized by young Syrian engineers who succeeded in bringing together international organizations, civil society, and the public and private sectors under a unified platform. She explained this forum is the first to connect international organizations with industrial companies in the field, aiming to integrate organizational, governmental, and private-sector efforts in support of sustainable development projects.

The conference served as an important platform for dialogue and cooperation, addressing the close link between food manufacturing quality, smart agriculture, and human resources rehabilitation. Discussions underscored that sustainable economic growth and national food security depend on technological innovation, strategic governance, and sustained investment in human capital.
