General Electricity Corporation Receives Regional ‘Partner of the Year’ Award

The General Electricity Transmission and Distribution Corporation has received the “Partner of the Year” award at the third Regional Energy Network for Women in the Middle East and North Africa (RENEW MENA) conference, held in Cairo. The recognition was awarded in appreciation of the Corporation’s pioneering role through its training program aimed at supporting and empowering female engineering students and enhancing women’s participation in the vital energy sector.

Distinguished From Over One Hundred Participants

In a statement, the Ministry of Energy explained that the award carries particular significance, as only eight awards were granted among over one hundred participating institutions. This distinction reflects the advanced standing the corporation has achieved in regional cooperation and capacity-building initiatives, underscoring the broad recognition of its efforts across the region.

In addition to receiving the award, the corporation’s delegation took part in a specialized dialogue session titled “Lessons from Contexts of Fragility and Conflict: Leading Energy Initiatives in Challenging Environments.” The session addressed the challenges and opportunities facing women in the energy sector, with participation from representatives of Yemen, Lebanon, and Palestine, enabling the exchange of experiences and best practices in complex and fragile settings.

A Training Program Bears Fruit

The award represents the culmination of concrete initiatives the corporation initiated. Last October, it organized a specialized training program for 20 female students and graduates in the fields of energy and renewable energy. The program was carried out in cooperation with RENEW, reflecting a strategic approach focused on building effective partnerships to achieve sustainable and measurable outcomes.

This achievement embodies sustained commitment to empowering women, investing in human capital, and strengthening regional partnerships. It goes beyond symbolic recognition, serving as evidence of a meaningful contribution to resilience, innovation, and sustainable development within the energy sector by removing barriers and expanding opportunities for women’s full and effective participation.
