Deir Ezzor Water Stations Rehabilitated to Restore Safe Drinking Water

As part of a national program restoring essential services, rehabilitation work is progressing at the Euphrates Water Station in Deir Ezzor Governorate, one of the region’s most critical water facilities. The station serves nearly 500,000 residents with a daily production capacity of 60,000 cubic meters of drinking water.

The project is being implemented during the second phase of a joint initiative between the Public Drinking Water Establishment and UNICEF. It aims to ensure reliable access to clean, potable water while strengthening the sustainability of supply systems damaged during previous years. Current works include reinforcing concrete walls and preparing the first sedimentation basin, measures that will enhance the station’s operational efficiency and its ability to meet rising demand.

Engineer Ahmad al-Musa, Director of the Public Drinking Water Establishment in Deir Ezzor, explained this phase focuses on improving both efficiency and water quality. He noted that work is progressing steadily, with completion expected by mid-year, stressing that the station’s continuous operation is essential for daily stability and meeting residents’ basic needs.

Rehabilitation of the Sukkariyah Water Station

In parallel, rehabilitation of the Sukkariyah Water Station in the city of Albukamal, is also complete. The project, in partnership with UNICEF, responds to long-standing challenges faced by residents in accessing safe drinking water.

The rehabilitation included upgrading pumps and treatment systems, cleaning water tanks, and improving overall service quality. The station was also reconnected to the electrical grid, and operational recommendations were provided to ensure long-term efficiency and continuity.

Musa described the project as a significant step toward strengthening the capacity of this key station and improving water quality for Albukamal’s residents. He added work continues on rehabilitating water and sanitation facilities across the governorate within available resources.

The Deir Ezzor Water Establishment, in cooperation with local communities and international humanitarian organizations, is implementing multiple projects aimed at restoring potable water supplies throughout the governorate. These efforts seek to mitigate the impact of infrastructure damage and ensure safe, reliable water access for affected populations.
