Government institutions and local communities continue coordinated efforts to provide urgent winter assistance to displaced families living in camps, as part of a broader humanitarian response to harsh weather conditions.
‘Warmth’ Campaign Reaches Northern Idlib Camps
The Warmth campaign departed from Latakia toward camps in the Khirbet al-Jouz area of northern Idlib countryside, delivering essential heating supplies to help residents withstand the winter cold. Latakia Governor Muhammad Othman explained that the initiative focuses on distributing heating materials to the most vulnerable families, prepared in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture.
Othman noted that the campaign is being implemented in cooperation with Idlib Governorate, stressing that it carries a message of solidarity and reassurance for displaced families facing difficult living conditions.
Rehabilitation Efforts Accompany Humanitarian Support
Alongside emergency assistance, Othman highlighted ongoing infrastructure rehabilitation efforts since liberation, carried out with the support of civil associations and organizations. These efforts include the rehabilitation of approximately 15 schools in previously damaged villages, allowing returning students to resume their education.
Idlib Governor Muhammad Abdulrahman described the scale of humanitarian needs in the governorate, noting the presence of around 835 camps across the countryside. He stated that the governorate is working to secure heating materials within available capacities and through coordination with other governorates.
Abdulrahman added that over 1.5 million people have returned to their homes across Syria, while many completely destroyed houses still require extended rehabilitation efforts before residents can return. For his part, Latakia’s Director of Agriculture Abdulfattah al-Samar confirmed that approximately 100 tons of firewood have been prepared for distribution, with additional quantities being organized to support families most in need.
‘Warm Winter’ Campaign in Deir Ezzor
In parallel, Deir Ezzor Governorate launched the Warm Winter campaign in coordination with the Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor, targeting residents in the city’s most affected neighborhoods. Director Muhannad al-Hunaidi explained that the campaign provides financial assistance equivalent to 100 liters of diesel per family. The first phase has already reached 500 families, with plans to cover another 500 in a second phase. Hunaidi noted that the campaign may expand further depending on available resources.
These coordinated initiatives across several governorates reflect the early stages of an integrated winter response plan. Implemented in cooperation with local organizations and community initiatives, the campaigns underscore the government’s commitment to alleviating humanitarian suffering and supporting displaced families during the winter season.
