The Syrian Petroleum Company (SPC) is participating in the CERAWeek energy conference in Houston, Texas, held this year under the theme “Convergence and Competition: Energy, Technology, and Geopolitics.” Syria’s presence marks a strategic step toward re-engaging with the global community through its energy sector. It highlights the sector’s role as a key driver of economic recovery while also strengthening Syria’s diplomatic and political outreach.
A Global Platform for Dialogue
Running from March 23 to 27, CERAWeek brings together over 10,000 participants, including government officials, industry leaders, and companies from 89 countries. The conference focuses on major global energy challenges, including geopolitical pressures on supply chains, the transition to renewable energy, and energy security. Analysts view the event as an important opportunity for Syria to present its vision for alternative and sustainable energy solutions in the region.
Yusuf Qablawi, CEO of the SPC, said Syria’s participation offers a platform to present a clear and realistic picture of the country’s energy sector and outline plans for its redevelopment using national expertise. He emphasized the delegation is focused on exploring cooperation opportunities and building partnerships supporting energy security and aligning with national priorities.
“The next phase requires active engagement and direct communication with major international players to strengthen Syria’s position in the energy sector and open new paths for investment and development,” Qablawi said.
Investment and Partnership Focus
The Syrian delegation is using the conference to highlight investment opportunities across the energy sector. Its agenda includes building strategic partnerships, establishing direct communication with global industry leaders, and exchanging expertise on energy transition and sustainable solutions.
Syria’s participation is also a step toward reducing economic isolation and reintegrating into the global energy landscape. With significant oil and gas resources, the country is positioning itself to re-enter regional and international energy markets.
Syria holds notable natural gas reserves along its Mediterranean coast, in addition to undeveloped fields in the Jazeera region. Engagement in global forums like CERAWeek can help attract investment and advance plans to rehabilitate oil fields, refineries, and transport infrastructure.
