The Saudi capital, Riyadh, hosted high-level bilateral talks between the Syrian Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry, Bassel Abdulhanan, and the Saudi Deputy Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Khalil Ibrahim Salma.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of the General Conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), focused on enhancing industrial and investment cooperation between the two countries. Both sides emphasized exchanging expertise in manufacturing and modern technology and reviewed promising joint investment opportunities.
Promoting Economic Development
During the talks, the two sides underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral relations in various industrial and commercial sectors to achieve shared interests and support sustainable economic growth. Discussions centered on accelerating economic development by building strategic partnerships in the industrial sector, facilitating the transfer of expertise, and developing industrial infrastructure, reflecting a mutual desire to open a new chapter of fruitful economic cooperation.
Field Visit to the Gulf Laboratory
As part of efforts to expand cooperation, the Syrian delegation, headed by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry, carried out a field visit to the Gulf Laboratory in Riyadh. The visit aimed to gain firsthand insight into the advanced laboratory systems and integrated technical services provided to support manufacturers and importers according to the highest international standards. The delegation explored avenues for deepening cooperation and strengthening technical partnerships between the two countries.
The Syrian delegation expressed its appreciation for the laboratory’s advanced equipment and the high technical competence of its staff, describing these capabilities as a testament to the laboratory’s leading position in testing, calibration, and certification. The delegation affirmed that the visit provides a solid basis for expanding future cooperation to achieve the highest levels of quality and reliability in industrial production.
Extensive International Participation in the UNIDO Conference
These discussions and visits took place within the framework of the UNIDO General Conference, which opened in Riyadh with the participation of 173 countries and over 150 speakers, including 20 ministers and 35 CEOs of major global companies.
The conference offered a vital platform to address key challenges in sustainable manufacturing and industrial development, providing the Syrian delegation with an important opportunity to strengthen communication and build bridges of cooperation with regional and international counterparts.
