Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa addressed the nation Friday night, emphasizing unity and accountability in response to recent violence in Latakia and Tartous. He praised the army and security forces for their swift actions while urging restraint and adherence to legal principles.
“Some remnants of the fallen regime attempted to test the new Syria they do not understand. Today, they see it as united, from east to west, from north to south,” Sharaa said. He described the government’s battle as one of honor, contrasting it with what he called the “dishonorable” actions of Assadists.
A Call for Order & Justice
Sharaa condemned attacks on civilians, security forces, and hospitals, calling such actions an “unforgivable sin.” He urged armed groups to surrender before it was too late. “You have drenched yourselves in Syrian blood for decades. Darkness follows your same path,” he declared. Despite the severity of the conflict, the president reaffirmed the state’s commitment to justice, promising fair trials for captured insurgents.
“What sets us apart from our enemies is our commitment to our principles,” he said, stressing that all military actions must adhere to national laws and ethical standards. He warned security forces against excessive force, stating, “Prisoners should not be insulted or subjected to physical abuse. This goes against God’s command and the country’s laws.”

His speech comes amid ongoing military operations against remnants of the former regime, who launched attacks on security personnel and infrastructure, causing power outages and hospital closures. The Syrian Ministry of Defense has intensified operations in response, regaining control of key areas.
Pro-government demonstrations swept across Syria, with rallies in Damascus, Hama, and Aleppo. Activists and religious organizations called for national unity, while Sharaa reiterated that Syria would not tolerate instability. “Weapons will remain in the hands of the state, and anyone harming civilians will face severe consequences,” he stated.

President al-Sharaa acknowledged concerns over potential human rights violations and emphasized accountability. “Despite the betrayal we have faced, the state remains the guarantor of civil peace,” he said, pledging that Syria would move forward without taking a step backward.
