Syria Restores Its Central Role on the International Stage

Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Ibrahim al-Olabi, affirmed Syria has regained its vital role and central position on the international stage. He attributed this development to the resilience and unity of the Syrian people, as well as the political vision demonstrated by the Syrian leadership.

In a post on the platform X, Olabi stated the past months have witnessed notable achievements for Syria at the international level. These began with President Ahmad al-Sharaa’s visit to the UN and his meetings with world leaders, marking the first high-level diplomatic appearance by a Syrian president in decades. This was followed by the rare consensus achieved within the UN Security Council regarding the lifting of sanctions.

Reaffirming Sovereignty and Unprecedented Engagement

Olabi also highlighted the success of Syrian efforts in securing a resolution reaffirming Syria’s sovereignty over the Golan, which received the highest voting percentage recorded for such resolutions. He pointed to a series of additional decisions related to the country’s future, culminating in the recent unprecedented visit by Security Council members to Damascus.

These developments, emphasizes Olabi, are the result of sustained efforts that have restored Syria’s natural and pivotal role within the international community, in accordance with its name, status, and historical legacy. Accompanying the UN Security Council delegation on its recent visit to Syria, he concluded his remarks by saying: “I leave Syria on Liberation Day, the homeland I carried in my heart, and whose rights I represent and defend before the UN.”
