Partnerships Aim to Modernize and Digitize Postal Services

The Syrian Postal Corporation signed two landmark memoranda of understanding with the Turkish Postal Corporation and the Barid al-Maghrib Group, marking a major step toward restructuring the national postal sector and integrating it into the country’s digital transformation efforts.

The agreements were signed by Imaduddin Hamad, director general of the Syrian Postal Corporation, alongside Hakan Gultan, director general of the Turkish Postal Corporation, and Ahmad al-Tuwaimi, director general of the Barid al-Maghrib Group.

According to officials, the partnerships are designed to address long-standing structural challenges facing the Syrian Post, including outdated infrastructure, declining service quality, and weak administrative practices that have eroded public confidence in the institution.

Key Areas of Cooperation

The memoranda outline several strategic areas of collaboration. These include promoting e-commerce through enhanced parcel and money transfer exchanges, linking postal networks to global trade platforms, and expanding financial and logistical services such as electronic remittances, postal banking, and digital payments.

The agreements also emphasize improving the performance of logistics centers, developing human capacity through training programs and knowledge exchange, and ensuring strong data protection standards by applying best practices in information security and privacy.

Distinct Roles and Shared Objectives

Each agreement carries a unique focus. Cooperation with Turkey centers on implementing automation solutions and improving express parcel services, while the partnership with Morocco aims to strengthen regional integration and align operations with the standards of the Universal Postal Union (UPU).

Hamad described the agreements as “qualitative milestones” in modernizing the Syrian Post, noting that the institution is committed to a practical strategy based on automation, simplified payment processes, and data protection. He said the partnerships reflect a broader vision to restore public trust and position Syrian Post as a key player in digital logistics.

Toward Greater Efficiency and Connectivity

Officials expect these collaborations to improve delivery times, lower costs, expand access to financial services, and boost the efficiency of logistics operations. In doing so, they are set to enhance the Syrian Postal Corporation’s reputation as a reliable service provider both regionally and internationally, contributing to the advancement of digital and economic services across Syria.
