‘Suwayda Is One of Us’ Campaign Aims to Strengthen National Unity

A group of young men and women from several Syrian provinces launched the “Suwayda Is One of Us” campaign promoting national unity while providing direct material and in-kind support to the people of Suwayda. The initiative collects donations from across the country and shows that Suwayda is an inseparable and cherished part of Syria.

The campaign was inaugurated during a fundraising event in the village of Surah al-Kubra in Suwayda’s countryside, with participants emphasizing cooperation and solidarity in the face of recent challenges and unrest.

Support for Education, Health, and Infrastructure

The initiative focuses on strengthening key sectors such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure. Its objectives include supporting schools and educational centers, equipping hospitals and health facilities with essential supplies and medicines, and rehabilitating basic services such as water, electricity, and roads.

Suwayda Governor Mustafa al-Bakour said the campaign aims to “restore national unity and enhance civil peace,” adding that donations will be directed toward rebuilding vital infrastructure for “our people in Suwayda, as it remains an inseparable part of Syria.”

Messages of Belonging and Resilience

Druze Sheikh Laith al-Balous praised the initiative’s message, saying that it “embodies the spirit of belonging and solidarity reflecting the true character of the Syrian people.” He emphasized the difficult circumstances the province has endured “will not alter its national constants,” affirming that Suwayda remains steadfast in its dignity, history, and commitment to Syria’s unity.

President Ahmad al-Sharaa, speaking during the campaign, called on Syrians nationwide to contribute. “Those calling for Suwayda’s separation do not represent the province,” he said. “The people of Suwayda have always preserved national unity and continue to uphold Syria’s cohesion. Although the wounds may take time to heal, Suwayda will play its full part in rebuilding our country.”

Ahmad Zaidan, presidential advisor for media affairs, reaffirmed that “the Syrian state stands equally by all Syrians” adding, “Suwayda is Syria. Our presence in the province is a clear message from the Syrian leadership that we are one people and one state—no isolationist can divide us.”

Nationwide Participation and Strong Support

The campaign raised over $14.6 million in total donations, with wide participation from both government institutions and civil society organizations. Contributors included the Ministry of Energy ($1.6 million), the Syrian Arab Red Crescent ($2 million), the Syrian Chamber of Industry and Commerce ($1.5 million), the Aga Khan Network ($1 million), and Syrian Civil Defense—the White Helmets—($1 million) to establish a new center in Suwayda.

Private donors—including prominent businessmen, local officials, and governors—also made contributions, among them the heads of the Damascus and Aleppo Chambers of Commerce, Governor Bakour, and members of Suwayda’s local leadership.

Part of a Wider Movement for Reconstruction

The Suwayda Is One of Us campaign is part of a growing series of nationwide community initiatives launched in recent weeks, including Manbij’s Call, Syrian Development Fund, Deir al-Ezz, Homs Wednesday, Horan’s Joy, Our Countryside Deserves, Loyalty to Idlib, and Rastan Wednesday. Together, these efforts highlight a spirit of shared responsibility and unity across Syria as citizens join hands to rebuild and strengthen their country.
