Israel launched a series of airstrikes in Syria early Saturday morning, hitting multiple sites linked to Iranian assets and Assad military installations across Damascus, Suwayda, and Homs. The strikes, which began around 2:00 a.m., caused several explosions in the capital and led to at least one death and multiple injuries, according to local sources.
Regime media outlet SANA reported that the air defense systems attempted to intercept “hostile targets” in the skies above Damascus. Residents heard powerful explosions across the city, with flames visible in the Kafr Sousa district. The strikes reportedly targeted a military site in this area, resulting in one fatality and injuring another person, according to the local news outlet Sawt Al-Asima (Voice of the Capital).
Pro-regime radio station Sham FM confirmed the blasts in Kafr Sousa, adding that ambulances and fire trucks were seen moving through the area. Simultaneously, Israel reportedly targeted a military installation near Al-Shinshar in the Homs countryside. The strikes are part of an ongoing campaign by Israel to neutralize Iranian-linked forces and assets within Syria, particularly those associated with Hezbollah and other militias backed by Tehran.
In addition to Damascus and Homs, the southern city of Suwayda was also hit. According to Suwayda 24, an Israeli airstrike targeted the Tal al-Qalib radar facility, a key installation operated by the Assad’s army southeast of Suwayda. Israeli aircraft also struck the 19th Air Defense Regiment base in Homs, noted the Voice of the Capital network, which monitors developments in the region.
This wave of Israeli airstrikes marks another escalation in Israel’s strategy to counter Iranian influence in Syria, especially as tensions rise following recent regional developments. Israel has conducted hundreds of strikes in Syria in recent years, focusing on weapons depots, intelligence facilities, and military positions linked to Iran’s network across the country.
These latest airstrikes coincide with Israel’s recent attacks on Iranian targets beyond Syria, including military sites inside Iran. Israeli warplanes targeted missile and defense facilities in Tehran earlier this week, suggesting a broadened scope in its campaign against Iranian military infrastructure across the region.
