Revolutionary forces have launched the largest military campaign in northwestern Syria in years, aiming to repel Assad regime forces and their allies. The operation, Repelling the Agression began on Wednesday in Aleppo’s western countryside and expanded to Idlib’s eastern countryside on Thursday. It represents a significant escalation in the region, with forces having entered the city of Aleppo.

At the core of this campaign is the former Fath al-Mubeen Operations Room (FMOR) which has given way to the new Command of Military Operations (CMO). The coalition is composed of several prominent revolutionary forces. Among them, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) stands as the largest and most influential group.

Other key forces within the coalition include the National Liberation Front (NLF), a conglomeration of various opposition groups operating alongside HTS, and Jaysh al-Izza (Army of Glory), a long-standing military force active in battles against the Assad regime. Together, these groups form the backbone of the coordinated military effort.

In addition to the CMO, other revolutionary groups have joined the operation. The Syrian National Army (SNA), which operates under the Turkish-backed Syrian Interim Government (SIG), has sent reinforcements to support the campaign. Units such as the Al-Sham Front, the Liberation and Construction Movement, and the Nour al-Din al-Zenki Movement have mobilized fighters, with reports of casualties among their ranks. These groups typically operate in northern Syria but have actively participated in this campaign.

The offensive has also seen the involvement of tribal fighters, highlighting the unity of the Syrian people in their goal to remove the occupying Iranian-backed militias and return to their lands and homes. The Al-Bakara Military Council, part of the Syrian Tribes and Clans Council, declared a general mobilization to back the operation. Tribal forces, including the Popular Resistance Brigades, have joined in efforts to secure liberated areas and deter regime aggression, contributing to the campaign’s growing strength.

Hassan Abdulghani, CMO spokesman described the campaign as a temporary but critical response to ongoing violence against civilians. “This operation unifies the ranks of the revolutionary forces and civil society in northwestern Syria to counter the brutal regime and Iranian militias,” Abdulghani said. He emphasized that the campaign seeks to “secure the area, deter aggression, and create a safe environment for the return of forcibly displaced persons.”

The fighting marks the first large-scale offensive by the revolution since 2018 and demonstrates the desperation and need of the people to end the occupation, return to their homes, and stop Assad and his allies’ daily attacks. Revolutionary forces are united in their effort to push back the regime and protect liberated areas, though the outcome of the battles remains uncertain as a unified military continues to press forward on multiple fronts.
