In a coordinated early morning assault, Assad regime forces launched a sweeping attack across multiple civilian towns and villages in northern Syria, as well as a Turkish observation post. The strikes began around 7:02 a.m. on the western and northern fronts of Aleppo, with an intense barrage that included missiles, rockets, drones, and mortars. Regime forces have targeted civilians in these areas repeatedly, and today’s escalation is raising new concerns over violations of humanitarian and international laws protecting civilians in conflict zones.
The offensive involved at least six “elephant” missiles, powerful improvised rockets often used by the regime, which were directed at the villages of Kafr Amma, Kafr Taal, and surrounding areas. Additionally, five Grad rockets, 20 artillery shells, and 40 mortars were fired, intensifying the assault on civilian territories. A Turkish observation post in Kadura was also shelled by regime artillery, prompting an official response from the Turkish Ministry of Defense, which confirmed that Turkish forces stationed in northern Syria continue to face “repeated attacks” from Assad regime forces.
The Turkish Ministry of Defense condemned the attack and emphasized its commitment to responding “firmly and immediately” to any aggression against its forces under the “right to legitimate defense.” A spokesperson for the ministry stated, “We have taken all necessary measures to ensure the security of our forces, and currently there are no negative developments in the region.” The Turkish military maintains several observation posts in northern Syria to monitor the ceasefire agreement and provide security amid the ongoing conflict, but regime strikes on these positions have continued intermittently.
The strikes resulted in serious injuries, including those of Ibrahim Hajj Musa, 52, and his wife, who were struck by suicide drones in the village of San. According to local reports, another individual was injured near Nayrab after regime forces launched a series of suicide drones targeting an olive workers’ car, causing severe damage. The widespread use of FPV suicide drones, artillery, and Grad rockets across multiple civilian areas reflects what local observers describe as an indiscriminate assault designed to project force, forcefully displace civilian populations, and create terror and chaos.
Today’s attacks further strained the tenuous stability in Idlib and Aleppo’s countryside, where civilians continue to face a volatile and dangerous landscape. For those displaced by previous conflicts, the escalating strikes are a reminder of the enduring threat posed by regime forces, who have consistently been accused of violating international humanitarian law by targeting civilians and non-military sites.
