In a significant step to strengthen Syria’s healthcare sector, the Ministry of Health signed three cooperation agreements with Al-Ameen Organization at the Ministry’s headquarters in Damascus. The agreements aim to enhance the quality and reach of medical services across several governorates, creating a qualitative shift in healthcare delivery and better addressing citizens’ needs.
Broad Scope of Medical Services
Under the agreements, approximately 920 health services will be provided by a workforce of 956 medical and support staff. Services will cover primary healthcare, kidney dialysis, physiotherapy, rehabilitation, and prosthetic care.
Dr. Zuhair al-Qarat, Director of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Health, explained that the first agreement focuses on operating and delivering healthcare services in 80 facilities across the governorates of Aleppo, Hama, Homs, and Idlib. These include primary healthcare centers, dialysis units, physiotherapy services, and prosthetic limb centers.
The second agreement involves the establishment of a modern health center in the city of Qudsaya in Damascus Countryside. The center will be constructed according to high standards comparable to international benchmarks and will include service annexes such as a mosque and commercial shops.
The third agreement covers the construction of an advanced health center and outpatient clinics in the city of al-Qusayr in Homs Governorate. The project also includes commercial shops and a water well to secure basic needs, supporting the city’s recovery after extensive destruction in previous years.
Dr. al-Qarat confirmed that the estimated number of beneficiaries from these projects is around one million people, stressing that the initiative is part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to expand health coverage and improve service quality nationwide.
Diverse Projects and Wide Geographic Reach
For his part, Dr. Moawia al-Harsouni, Executive Director of Al-Ameen Organization, emphasized the importance of the agreements in terms of project diversity, broad geographic coverage, and the scale of services provided.
He noted that the projects prioritize areas that have experienced a sharp decline in healthcare services in recent years, particularly Idlib, Aleppo, Homs, and Hama. Dr. al-Harsouni stated that the agreements entered into force immediately upon signing and that work has already begun on several centers to meet urgent health needs.
Al-Ameen Organization is a non-governmental, non-profit humanitarian entity founded in 2012 as a voluntary community initiative by a group of doctors, academics, and volunteers. Its mission is to support and promote healthcare services in line with humanitarian principles across Syria.
