
The Ministry of Communications and Technology announced the return of the global company Nokia to the Syrian market, in a move described by the ministry as a strategic step bringing Syria back on the path of technological development. This announcement was made during the “Amplify Syria” event held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Damascus.
Communications Minister Abdulsalam Haykal confirmed the Nokia partnership will contribute to building modern networks, providing quality job opportunities for Syrian technicians, and enhancing the digital infrastructure to meet citizens’ needs and support economic development.
For his part, Miko Lavanti, Nokia’s President for the Middle East and Africa in the cellular networks sector, expressed the company’s pride in returning to Syria, noting that the Syrian market has promising potential. He emphasized that Nokia is committed to supporting ministry projects such as Silk Link and Barq Net, and contributing to the development of the telecommunications sector in collaboration with local partners.
The event featured a series of lectures discussing the latest technology trends, including the use of 5G in fixed wireless access, optimal spectrum investment, cloud computing solutions, and communication security, alongside showcasing Nokia’s technologies in digital transformation.
This return comes after years of absence, as Nokia has reopened its office in Damascus in preparation for participating in the digital transformation plan for the sector, drawing on decades of experience in over 100 countries.
The event was attended by several ministers and representatives from diplomatic missions, along with figures from the telecommunications and information technology sectors, underscoring the importance of the event and its economic and technological implications. The company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation is expected to contribute significantly to the country’s economic recovery and development efforts.
