The 24th edition of BuildEx, the International Construction and Building Exhibition, opened Wednesday at the Damascus Fairground. Organized by the Arab Group for Exhibitions and Conferences in cooperation with the Ministry of Local Administration and Environment, the event runs through June 14.

This year’s exhibition features participation from 710 companies and 1,400 brands representing 51 countries. Twenty countries are participating directly, underscoring the exhibition’s position as one of the region’s leading specialized events in the construction and rebuilding sector.

The scale of participation reflects growing international interest in opportunities within the Syrian market as the country continues efforts to rehabilitate infrastructure and revitalize key economic sectors.

Growing Interest in Investment Opportunities

Officials and business representatives described the exhibition as an important platform for economic engagement and future investment. Minister of Local Administration and Environment Muhammad Anjrani told SANA the exhibition brings together a large number of companies and opportunities that can contribute to supporting Syria’s recovery during the reconstruction phase.

Muhammad Hamza, general director of International Exhibitions and Events in Syria, told Levant24 BuildEx carries particular significance at this stage because of its direct connection to reconstruction and the rehabilitation of multiple sectors across the country.

“This event is of great importance, especially at this time, due to its close connection to the reconstruction and rehabilitation of all sectors in Syria,” Hamza said. He added current conditions present significant opportunities for investors interested in entering the Syrian market.

Partnerships Driving Future Development

Participants from several countries emphasized the exhibition’s role in creating connections between local and international companies. Abdullah Salah, a representative of a Jordanian company, said BuildEx provides an ideal platform for presenting products and exploring opportunities for cooperation and long-term partnerships.

Abdulkhaliq Nusaimi, an agent for an Italian company, noted participation offers valuable opportunities to meet decision-makers, engineers and investors. Bassam al-Faqsh, general manager of a company operating in the construction sector in Algeria and Turkey, said the exhibition serves as an important economic and investment gathering.

Faqsh said it brings together local and international firms and helps facilitate strategic partnerships supporting reconstruction efforts. Ahmad Tashdelen, manager of the Turkish company Komsan, told Levant24 his company hopes to contribute to ongoing development efforts through cooperation with Syrian businesses.

Development Projects Across the Country

The Syrian Development Organization (SDO) showcased several of its reconstruction initiatives during the exhibition. Dr. Bashar Swede, director of the SDO’s Reconstruction Axis, told Levant24 this year’s participation reflects a significant expansion compared with previous years. He said SDO’s programs now extend across northern, southern, coastal and central regions, as well as Damascus and its countryside.

Swede added that they made notable progress through several strategic projects, including the Greater Aleppo project implemented in partnership with the Aleppo Governorate. According to Swede, the organization has provided nearly $12 million to support rehabilitation and investment projects in various locations across the country.
