
Syria’s Interior Ministry released a report detailing the achievements of its departments during April, highlighting expanded anti-drug operations, criminal investigations and public service activity across the country. In a statement published through official channels on May 9, the ministry said cooperation between its various departments contributed to progress in both security operations and citizen services.
The ministry said the Drug Enforcement Administration seized 17.4 million Captagon pills and 1.6 tons of hashish during April. Authorities also dismantled seven international trafficking networks as part of broader efforts to combat narcotics smuggling.
Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department announced the discovery of a forged seal belonging to the Ministry of Energy and said authorities arrested those involved. The department also documented 321 criminal cases related to forgery and extortion.
Civil Services Process Millions of Transactions
The report also outlined the ministry’s administrative and public service activities during the month. According to the ministry, the General Directorate of Civil Affairs completed over 1.5 million transactions, including 69,926 birth registrations and 19,762 marriage contracts. The Immigration and Passports Department issued over 67,500 passports during April. Officials said 48,354 passports were issued inside Syria, while 19,179 were processed abroad.
The Airports and Ports Security Department facilitated the movement of over 875,000 travelers, including 477,474 arrivals and 398,268 departures. The ministry added that security teams also coordinated the transit of 265 official delegations. In the field of international cooperation, authorities said they canceled 2,420 international review notices through Interpol procedures aimed at settling the legal status of citizens.
Recruitment and Training Efforts Expand
The Interior Ministry also emphasized efforts at strengthening staffing and training programs. Officials said the Human Resources Department accepted over 3,300 new recruits and opened new membership centers in Idlib, Tartous and Daraa provinces.
At the same time, the Qualification and Training Department trained over 6,000 personnel during April as part of ongoing programs designed to improve operational readiness and administrative performance.
Health and Prison Services Continue
The report highlighted humanitarian and health-related work carried out by ministry departments during the month. According to the ministry, the Medical Services Department provided 216,757 medical services, including 114,079 services dedicated to inmate care inside detention facilities.
The Prisons and Correctional Facilities Department also continued restoration and rehabilitation work on nine prisons and storage facilities across six provinces. Officials said the facilities documented visits conducted by the International Committee of the Red Cross as part of ongoing humanitarian coordination. According to the ministry April’s figures reflect continued efforts to improve institutional coordination, expand citizen services and strengthen security operations throughout the country.
