Syria Launches Smart Industry Platform in Beijing

Syrian-Chinese economic cooperation advanced with the launch of the Syria International Smart Industrial Cities Platform in Beijing. The initiative aims to support Syria’s reconstruction and economic development by facilitating the transfer of China’s industrial expertise and advanced technologies to the Syrian market.

The platform was launched by the Syrian-Chinese Business Council in cooperation with Suzhou Land Group and Growfast Group. The event was attended by Muhammad al-Lababidi, chargé d’affaires of the Syrian Embassy in China, along with government officials, representatives of economic institutions and business leaders from both countries. Their participation reflected growing interest in expanding industrial and investment cooperation between Syria and China.

Building Smart Industrial Cities

The platform is designed to draw on China’s experience in developing and managing smart industrial cities. Through partnership and twinning programs between Syrian and Chinese industrial cities, the initiative seeks to transfer technical expertise, industrial knowledge and modern technologies to Syria.

In addition to promoting technology transfer, the platform aims to strengthen Syria’s industrial infrastructure, develop the skills of its workforce and attract domestic and foreign investment. Supporters of the initiative say these efforts could help create a more competitive and sustainable industrial sector capable of contributing to the country’s long-term economic recovery.

The project also seeks to encourage technology-driven manufacturing while expanding cooperation between public and private sector institutions in both countries. Organizers say closer collaboration can accelerate development projects and support Syria’s reconstruction through modern industrial investment.

Expanding Bilateral Economic Cooperation

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Lababidi said Syria welcomes Chinese companies and institutions interested in participating in reconstruction and development projects. He said relations between Syria and China continue to expand across multiple sectors and emphasized the need for broader industrial and economic cooperation that serves the interests of both countries.

Al-Lababidi also praised the Syrian-Chinese Business Council and its partners for helping strengthen cooperation between public and private sector institutions and turning investment opportunities into practical projects that support Syria’s national development priorities. He said China’s industrial and technological experience can play an important role in Syria’s industrial modernization.

Fadi al-Muhaimid, chairman of the Syrian-Chinese Business Council, described the platform as an important step in bilateral economic relations. He said the initiative reflects a transition from traditional trade toward a broader industrial partnership that encourages joint investment and supports long-term development projects.

First Projects Announced

The launch ceremony also introduced the platform’s first two flagship initiatives, the Smart Furniture City in Damascus and the Smart Furniture City in Aleppo. The projects are intended to establish specialized industrial clusters that incorporate advanced technologies and modern production systems.

Zhang Wei, mayor of Changshu and deputy secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Changshu, welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed the city’s commitment to expanding industrial and investment cooperation with Syria. Organizers said the platform is expected to encourage greater Chinese participation in Syria’s reconstruction while strengthening long-term economic ties between the two countries.
