Revolutionary forces in Syria have achieved sweeping victories in their campaign to liberate the country, marking the most significant shift in power dynamics since the uprising began in 2011. The Command of Military Operations (CMO) has announced the expulsion or retreat of Assad forces from several key regions, including Suwayda, Quneitra, and Daraa in the south, and continues its steady advance toward the capital, Damascus.
A monumental achievement, the rebels secured complete control over the Suwayda and Quneitra provinces. Suwayda, which had long been a stronghold of the regime’s security forces, saw the rapid collapse of regime checkpoints, barracks, and intelligence branches under the coordinated efforts of the Men of Dignity movement and allied factions. In Quneitra, the rebels took control of key towns and liberated detainees from the central prison in Al-Baath City.
Daraa, the cradle of the Syrian revolution, has also been fully liberated. The revolutionary forces captured the regime’s security square in Daraa Al-Mahatta, including the Saraya building, and drove out senior regime officials such as Brigadier General Louay Al-Ali, who fled to Damascus. The security departments and military installations in Izraa, the regime’s last stronghold in the governorate, also fell under the revolution’s control.
In a statement, the men of Daraa declared an irreversible uprising against tyranny. “The south rises with its heroes to write a new chapter of honor and dignity,” they proclaimed, highlighting their resolve to purge the region of oppression and corruption.
CMO forces reached Al-Sanamayn, placing them less than 20 kilometers from Damascus. The capture of Al-Sanamayn follows victories in Al-Qaryatayn in eastern rural Homs and the Sasa branch in rural Damascus. Colonel Hassan Abdulghani, confirmed the beginning of the final phase to encircle the capital. “Our forces are steadily advancing toward Damascus,” he said.
The regime’s collapse is underscored by widespread defections and chaotic retreats. Hundreds of soldiers surrendered or defected in Suwayda and Daraa, while regime convoys retreating to Damascus have come under precise targeting by CMO forces. The battalions of the Repelling the Aggression campaign have reported the liberation of multiple towns and villages in rural Damascus as Assad’s forces abandon positions.
Colonel Abdulghani emphasized the discipline and unity of the CMO, reassuring all communities in liberated areas, regardless of sect or ethnicity, of their safety. “The era of sectarianism and tyranny has ended forever, by the will of God,” he declared. Revolutionary leaders have called on minorities to support the revolution, emphasizing that the fight is for justice, dignity, and a united Syria.
They have also pledged to secure safe zones for displaced Syrians, allowing them to return to their homes with dignity and safety. “Today, the free people of Syria are writing pages of glory,” Abdulghani said. “Darkness is dispelled, and the dawn of freedom rises.”
As the revolution pushes closer to Damascus, the Assad regime has framed its retreats as “tactical redeployment.” The Ministry of Defense claimed its forces are establishing defensive positions around the capital and other key areas. However, these claims are widely dismissed as an attempt to mask the regime’s rapid losses on multiple fronts.
The regime also faces mounting losses among its leadership and allies. In Suwayda and Daraa, security branches and military centers were evacuated or overrun, with senior officers fleeing or defecting. Iranian-backed militias have also suffered setbacks, with reports of heavy losses in Homs and Deir Ezzor.
With Damascus nearly encircled, revolutionary forces and rebels are closer than ever to their goal of overthrowing the Assad regime. The Southern Operations Room (SOR), a coalition of rebel factions, declared its destination to be the Umayyad Square in Damascus, signaling their intent to reach the heart of the capital and end decades of tyranny.
Colonel Abdulghani expressed optimism for Syria’s future: “These moments reflect the will of a people who refuse to break and the resolve of a nation determined to regain its freedom and rights.” As the Syrian people march towards freedom, the message to the Assad regime is clear: oppression has no place in Syria’s future.
