On Friday, the US State Department published its annual report on terrorism for the year 2020, in which it confirmed that the Assad regime had been using the pretext of fighting terrorism to liquidate, imprison and torture its opponents.
The report stated that Assad has been portraying himself as a defender of Syria in the face of terrorism making his crimes against his people look as achievements against terrorism.
It added that Assad relied on militias and foreign forces (many affiliated with Iran which are classified as terrorists) in his war against his people and to preserve the areas he had recently seized.
The Assad regime, with Russian and Iranian support, has committed scores of heinous massacres using chemical weapons, killing thousands of innocent civilians and displacing thousands.
