Syrian Response Coordinators Team Report Urges International Community to Take Action

According to a report released by the Syrian Response Coordinators team (SRC), Assad and his allies, Russia and Iran, have killed and injured nearly 300 civilians and displaced tens of thousands.

The document records the use of internationally banned weapons most notably cluster and napalm incendiary munitions, more than six times in the countryside of Idlib and Aleppo. The data showed that the northwestern region of Syria was attacked over 198 times in 61 localities and that Russia carried out more than 35 airstrikes.

Syria Civil Defense, also known as the White Helmets said Assad regime forces, “dangerously and systematically escalated their missile bombardment on the city of Idlib, its countryside, and the western countryside of Aleppo, yesterday, Sunday, targeting public facilities, hospitals, schools, bakeries, markets, a camp for the displaced, and Syrian Civil Defense centers.”

The SRC team recorded widespread displacement in the targeted areas, which they called, the “largest of its kind in several years in the region and amounted to 78,709 displaced people,” noting that many have been displaced multiple times.

Similar to the response following this year’s earthquakes, organizations like the UN and the international community have been slow to respond or take action. The SRC’s report implores “all international actors and bodies to work to stop the regime’s violations and hostilities and to take immediate and serious measures to stop these attacks.” They also urged all humanitarian organizations in the region to return to and continue working to continue providing vital services and humanitarian operations for the people of northern Syria.
