Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad al-Shaibani conducted an official visit to Algeria on June 4, highlighting efforts by Damascus to strengthen regional partnerships while expanding cooperation with Arab states. During the visit, Shaibani met with Algerian President Abdulmadjid Tebboune in the presence of Syria’s General Intelligence Service chief, Hussein Salama.
The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, expanding areas of cooperation and exchanging views on regional and international developments of mutual interest. The visit included a series of meetings reflecting the breadth of engagement between the two countries, covering political, economic and security matters.
Broadening Areas of Cooperation
Shaibani held talks with Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmad Atef to discuss ways to advance bilateral relations and improve coordination between the two governments. In addition, Shaibani and Salama met with Algerian Interior Minister Said Sayoud to explore opportunities for cooperation in security, administration and local governance.
The Syrian delegation also met with Minister of Mines and Mining Industries Mourad Hanafi to discuss cooperation in energy, mining and related industrial sectors.
