• The UN says 85% of Gaza’s 2.4 million people, almost two million, have been displaced, with 156 people killed and 246 injured in the last 24 hours.

• Israel’s military expects fighting in Gaza to continue throughout 2024, with the war at its height and the next stage expected to last at least six months.

• Israeli planes have reportedly struck two urban refugee camps in central Gaza, with dozens of people killed in recent days.

• Mai al-Kaila, the Health Minister of Palestine, says only nine hospitals continue to partially operate in Gaza, down from 36 at the start of the war.

Iran deploys a warship to the Red Sea after the US Navy attacks and kills Houthis trying to commandeer a commercial vessel.

• Tens of thousands of people on Jan. 1 gathered at a massive rally in Istanbul to show solidarity with Palestinians amid the Israel- Gaza war. The event, which was titled “Mercy for our martyrs, support to Palestine, the curse on Israel” and organized by the Turkish Youth Foundation (TÜGVA) and the National Will Platform, lasted for two hours. The rally saw the participation of 250,000 people, including representatives from 308 non-governmental organizations.
