Covid vaccination campaign begins in the liberated areas of Syria

The Idlib Health Directorate and the Syrian Vaccination Team in Idlib governorate provided 11 doses of the new Corona vaccine to its workers and members of the Syrian Civil Defense.

The Health Directorate stated: “In the framework of preparing the launch of the vaccination campaign with the Covid-19 vaccine at the beginning of May 2021, we, in cooperation with the Syria Vaccination Team, vaccinated 11 of our cadres and civil defense personnel.”

Among the people who received the first dose of the vaccine was, Raed Al-Saleh, director of the Syrian Civil Defense, the head of the Idlib Pharmacists Association, Dr. Muhammad Salem, an official in the Syrian Vaccination Team, a number of doctors and workers of the Syrian Vaccination Team, the Idlib Health Ministry, and the Syrian Medical Specializations Authority.

It is noteworthy that the Idlib Health Directorate and medical organizations operating in the liberated areas received the first batch of 53 000 doses of the British-made AstraZeneca vaccine, according to the Kovacs program from the World Health Organization, via the Bab al-Hawa border crossing with Turkey on April 21, 2021.

According to Idlib Health Ministry, the total number of cases in the liberated Northern areas of Syria is 21 983, with 653 recorded casualties.
