A Symbol of Regional Solidarity: The Azerbaijani Gas Supply to Syria

Syria, Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Qatar affirmed the project supplying Azerbaijani natural gas to Syria via Turkish territory, funded by the State of Qatar, symbolizes regional solidarity among these countries.

The four nations made a joint statement published by the Turkish Ministry of Energy declaring the project carries strong humanitarian implications. It contributes to the revitalization of the Syrian economy, improved living conditions, and enhances the electricity supply across Syria. It also represents an important step towards deepening existing ties. The statement shows completing the project within a record time constitutes vital support for the reconstruction process in Syria.

Following the statement, the four countries reiterated their determination to enhance peace, stability, and prosperity in the region, emphasizing their commitment to building a future based on cooperation rather than division—where the people of the region can enjoy security, development, and mutual trust.

The opening of the line supplying natural gas from Azerbaijan to Syria via Turkish territory, was attended by Syrian Minister of Energy Muhammad Bashir, Turkish Minister of Energy Alparslan Bayraktar, Azerbaijani Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov, and representatives from the Qatar Development Fund, with an initial rate of approximately 3.4 million cubic meters of gas per day.

Bashir stated that the line will enable the daily supply of 6 million cubic meters of gas, starting with 3.4 million cubic meters coming from Azerbaijan through Turkey, as part of the State of Qatar’s generous assistance.

He added that launching the gas line connecting Syria with Azerbaijan is a strategic step towards enhancing energy security in the country. It will directly contribute to improving electricity supply and increasing operating hours at power generation stations, thereby positively impacting economic and living conditions, and supporting efforts to enable displaced individuals to return to their areas.

Bashir also expressed gratitude to partner countries involved in this achievement (Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Qatar) for their “brotherly supportive positions towards Syria.”| Syria’s Ministry of Energy considers the project a step towards enhancing regional cooperation and supporting infrastructure in the region.
