A New Gateway for Exporting Syrian Products to Regional Markets

The Khan al-Harir, Motex exhibition, specializing in the clothing and textile industry, kicked off on Friday night, September 12, in the Syrian capital, Damascus. The exhibition featured a remarkable participation of 220 national companies and was attended by over 400 Arab and foreign investors. This ambitious step aims to support exports and strengthen the position of Syrian products on the regional trade map.

Wide Arab Participation and Huge Exhibition Space

The launch of the exhibition came within the framework of a clear incentive from the Syrian government to support the textile sector, one of the established and authentic industrial sectors in Syria. Muhammad Barniyeh, Minister of Finance, explained that the new tax system relies on granting broad exemptions and financial incentives to investors, enhancing the attractiveness of the investment environment and driving exports forward.

The exhibition floor spanned a vast area of 10,000 square meters, spread across three halls within the Damascus Fairgrounds, accommodating exhibitors and visitors from both inside and outside Syria. The halls witnessed a remarkable turnout from businessmen and importers from several Arab countries, most notably Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Algeria, and Yemen, in addition to a Turkish presence.

Advances in Design and Quality and a Platform for Contracting

For his part, Imad Taha al-Qassem, President of the Aleppo Chamber of Industry, emphasized that this year’s exhibits demonstrate a significant leap in the quality of products and the modernity of their designs, which positively reflects competitiveness.

For his part, Muhammad al-Mawlawi, President of the Damascus and Rural Damascus Chamber of Industry, described the exhibition as “an ideal platform for export contracts,” expressing his optimism about concluding new agreements with Arab markets. He emphasized that the exhibition represents evidence of the “renewed vitality of the Syrian textile industry,” which is growing stronger year after year.

A Window to Syria’s Potential

As Eng. Jamal Sharaf, Treasurer of the Damascus Chamber of Commerce and member of the Organizing Committee, explained, this event allows Syrian industrialists to showcase their high-quality products meeting market demands, reflecting the potential of the national industry and its ability to compete regionally and internationally.

The exhibition continues until September 15th and welcomes visitors daily from 12pm to 9pm. Free transportation is provided from Bab Touma Square to the Fairgrounds.

The opening ceremony was attended by the heads and members of the boards of the Syrian Chambers of Industry and Commerce, as well as a number of ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Damascus, highlighting the economic and commercial importance of this event.
