Idlib Reopens 50 Schools After Renovation

Idlib governorate marked the reopening of 50 renovated schools as part of ongoing efforts to restore educational infrastructure across the region. The launch ceremony took place at Dhi Qar School in Kafr Nabil, located in southern Idlib, and highlighted broader initiatives aimed at improving access to education for thousands of students.

The schools reopened following extensive rehabilitation work funded through the Loyalty to Idlib campaign. The project was overseen by the governorate’s Education Directorate and implemented in partnership with several civil society organizations.

According to local officials, the 50 schools are expected to serve approximately 40,000 students, representing a significant step in efforts to rebuild educational services and support communities affected by years of conflict and displacement.

Reviving a Historic School

Among the renovated facilities is Dhi Qar School, a long-standing educational institution in Kafr Nabil. Ahmad al-Halabi, director of the Rahma Around the World Foundation in the US, told SANA that the school has a history spanning over six decades and has educated generations of students from the area.

Halabi said the school had remained out of service for years before the recent restoration effort. He noted the foundation viewed the rehabilitation project as an opportunity to help restore an important community institution and return it to operation.

The renovation covered over 800 square meters and included 21 classrooms, two administrative offices and a laboratory. Workers installed new doors and windows, completed painting and maintenance work, rehabilitated the courtyard and garden, planted 85 trees and upgraded the school’s exterior and perimeter fence. Officials said the facility is fully prepared to welcome students for the upcoming academic year.

Officials Highlight Importance of Investment

Following the reopening ceremony, Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raaed al-Saleh and Idlib Gov. Muhammad Abdurahman emphasized the importance of investing in education as part of broader recovery efforts.

During a press conference, the officials said improving educational infrastructure contributes to a stronger learning environment while supporting stability in local communities. They also noted rehabilitation projects continue across the governorate as authorities work to improve basic services and promote development in areas benefiting from reconstruction efforts.

Residents of Kafr Nabil welcomed the reopening, describing it as an important milestone after years of disruption that affected children’s access to education. Many residents noted the special significance of Dhi Qar School, which remains one of the oldest educational institutions in the area.

Continuing Educational Recovery

The reopening ceremony reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen the education sector throughout Idlib. Local authorities and partner organizations continue focusing on repairing damaged facilities and expanding access to quality educational services.

As additional projects move forward, officials hope renovated schools will provide safe and supportive learning environments for students while helping restore normal educational opportunities across the governorate.
