Motex Khan al-Harir Boosts Damascus Textile Revival

The specialized Syrian export clothing exhibition Motex Khan al-Harir opened on Wednesday evening at the Damascus Fairgrounds, under the auspices of the Chambers of Industry and Commerce of Damascus and Aleppo, and in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Industry. Dedicated to the Spring/Summer 2026 season, the exhibition features a record participation of over 250 national companies working in garments, textiles, related supplies, logistics services, and entities supporting small and micro enterprises.

A Partnership to Revive a Historic Industry

Minister of Finance Muhammad Barnieh affirmed that the current phase reflects a genuine partnership between the state, the industrial sector, and society to restore the prominence of Syrian industry and boost exports. He noted that the textile industry represents a deep-rooted historical legacy for Syria, adding that such exhibitions play a central role in promoting national industry and reinforcing optimism about the sector’s recovery.

Director General of the Syrian Exhibitions Corporation Muhammad Hamza emphasized the exhibition represents a crucial step toward revitalizing the garment industry and restoring its regional and international standing. Muhammad Mawlawi, Head of the Damascus and Rural Damascus Chamber of Industry, explained the event hosts foreign businesspeople to view Syrian products, stressing that local industries are comparable to global standards and require stable platforms to strengthen their international presence.

Regaining Markets and Supporting the Economy

Imad Taha al-Qassem, Head of the Aleppo Chamber of Industry, described the textile sector as one of Syria’s oldest industries and a pillar of the national economy, noting that exhibitions are among the most effective tools for regaining lost foreign markets.

Louay al-Ashqar, a member of the Board of Directors of the Damascus Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the exhibition’s export focus as a valuable opportunity for manufacturers and traders to connect with global markets, supporting economic recovery and opening new horizons.

The exhibition runs for five days, welcoming visitors daily from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Free shuttle services are available from Bab Touma Square and from in front of the Cham Hotel to the Exhibition City. The event reflects a broad national consensus on the pivotal role of the industrial sector, particularly textiles and apparel, as a driver of economic recovery and renewed global engagement.
