The Ministry of Tourism announced the completion of contractual arrangements with Rotana Star Contracting and Westfield Sons, clearing the way for the launch of a major integrated hotel and tourism project in Damascus’ Kafr Sousa district. The project reflects the ministry’s strategy to strengthen tourism infrastructure through high-quality private-sector investment within approved regulatory frameworks.
An Integrated Urban Destination
Designed as a comprehensive, multi-use urban destination, the project combines hospitality, commerce, entertainment, and services within a single development. It includes a five-star tourist hotel, formerly known as the Movenpick Hotel, alongside the Arab Mall, which is expected to become the largest commercial and service mall in Damascus. Entertainment venues and supporting services are also incorporated into the design, ensuring functional integration and positioning the project as a destination for both residents and visitors.
Modern Design and Global Standards
The development follows a modern urban planning approach meeting advanced technical and engineering standards. Hotel operations will be managed by an international hospitality company, aiming to deliver a high-quality guest experience and elevate the capital’s tourism offerings. The project is based on a 45-year investment contract, reflecting a long-term vision focused on stability, sustainability, and confidence in large-scale tourism development.
Government Vision and Private-Sector Partnership
Tourism Minister Mazen al-Salahani reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to attracting quality tourism investments by providing an encouraging regulatory environment that ensures strong execution and long-term operational sustainability. He emphasized such partnerships play a key role in enhancing Damascus’s position as a tourism and investment destination aligned with global standards.
From the private sector, Yusuf Sankari, founding partner and director of Westfield Sons, described the project as a long-term investment opportunity, noting the company’s commitment to implementing it according to the highest international development and operational standards. He stressed that the project reflects mutual trust with government authorities and aims to add real value to the tourism sector.
Maath al-Kafri, founder of Rotana Star Contracting, highlighted close coordination with relevant authorities ensuring timely implementation. He noted that the project seeks to deliver an integrated tourism experience meeting the expectations of both the local market and international visitors.
A Step Toward Revitalizing Damascus
The Arab Mall project represents a significant step in reshaping Damascus’s urban and tourism landscape. By combining modern hospitality, large-scale retail, and entertainment in one destination, it strengthens investor confidence and supports the city’s efforts to recover its historic appeal while competing in the contemporary regional and global tourism market.
