Power Supply Improves Across Syrian Provinces

Minister of Energy Muhammad al-Bashir announced a marked improvement in electricity conditions across most Syrian provinces, with some areas now receiving power around the clock for the first time in years. In a post on X, Bashir said the gains stem from several factors, including the resumption of gas supplies through Jordan, ongoing maintenance work and more balanced electricity consumption.

He said these efforts helped stabilize and strengthen the national grid across large parts of the country. The development marks a significant shift after years of limited and inconsistent electricity access in many regions.

Uneven Recovery in Eastern and Southern Areas

Despite the progress, Bashir said improvements have not yet reached all provinces. He noted that technical teams continue to repair faults at substations and along transmission lines, with a focus on eastern and southern regions where outages persist.

“The ministry is fully aware that not every region has benefited from this improvement yet,” Bashir said, underscoring the government’s efforts to extend reliable service nationwide. He also thanked Syrian citizens for their patience and cooperation, adding that the ministry remains committed to using all available resources to expand access. “Our goal is for this progress to reach every home in Syria,” he said.

Jordan Gas Deal Supports Grid Stability

The recent improvements follow a January 2026 agreement between Syria and Jordan to supply natural gas to support electricity generation. Under the deal, Syria receives about 4 million cubic meters, or roughly 140 million cubic feet, of gas per day. Officials say the agreement has played a key role in boosting generation capacity and improving the consistency of supply.

Regional Tensions Disrupt Energy Flow

However, the Ministry of Energy has warned that regional instability continues to pose risks. It said recent escalations between Iran and Israel disrupted gas flows under existing agreements, leading to a temporary decline in electricity supply hours. According to the ministry, reduced gas volumes and intermittent pumping interruptions through Jordan directly affected the grid’s performance during that period.

Maintenance Efforts Aim for Long-Term Gains

Alongside fuel supply measures, authorities continue to invest in infrastructure repairs and upgrades. Daily updates from the ministry highlight ongoing work to replace aging transformers, repair damaged cables and carry out routine grid maintenance.

Efforts also include rehabilitating power plants and dams to increase overall generation capacity. Officials say these steps are essential to sustaining recent gains and ensuring more reliable electricity service across all provinces.
