Syrian security forces are escalating efforts to stabilize the country following the fall of the Assad regime. Recent operations have targeted remnants of the ousted government, drug traffickers, and criminal networks across multiple provinces. Clashes in Latakia and Tartous have led to mass displacement, while new security measures in Aleppo aim to prevent further unrest.
New Unit Deployed to Strengthen Security
Authorities in Aleppo have launched new security measures with the deployment of Special Task Force Unit A1 in the Al-Furqan neighborhood. This move is part of efforts to enhance stability and protect civilians.
The Interior Ministry announced that Unit A1 will use drones for 24/7 surveillance and mobile operations rooms to ensure rapid responses to threats. The initiative comes amid ongoing efforts to track down criminals and remnants of the ousted Assad regime.
Security Forces Foil Attack in Tartous
In Tartous, Public Security forces thwarted an attack in Baniyas. Two armed men on a motorcycle targeted a security checkpoint with grenades and small arms before being confronted by officers. One attacker was killed, and the other was arrested. The attack followed days of tension in the coastal region, where regime remnants have engaged in sporadic clashes with government forces.
Authorities Arrest Gang in Car Theft
Security forces in Homs arrested five suspects on March 12 for stealing a vehicle loaded with medicine. Officers tracked the stolen car within two hours and raided the suspects’ location, recovering another stolen vehicle in the process. Security officials say they continue to target criminal activity through increased patrols and surveillance.
Drug Dealer Killed in Daraa Shootout
A suspected drug trafficker, Amjad Riyad al-Balout, was killed in an armed confrontation with security forces in Al-Harak. The Public Security Directorate said Balout opened fire as officers moved to arrest him, leading to a shootout. He later died at the hospital. Authorities have intensified operations against drug traffickers since the Assad regime’s fall, seizing large amounts of Captagon and other narcotics and dismantling smuggling networks along the Syrian-Lebanese border.
Smuggling Operation Disrupted on Iraqi Border
In eastern Syria, Public Security forces intercepted a smuggling operation in Al-Hari, near the Iraqi border. Several suspects were arrested, and large quantities of Captagon pills, explosives, and weapons were seized. Local sources reported that the smuggled goods were intended for Iraq. In response, Iraqi authorities have increased border patrols in coordination with Syrian security forces.
As Syria grapples with ongoing security challenges, government forces remain engaged in operations to restore order preserve public safety, and combat threats from both armed groups and criminal networks.
